2) Spring Outdoor Registration – Registration closes on January 15, 2010. This is an on-line registration. For more information please go to our website, www.johnstonlightning.com, and click on the registration forms link. Please be sure to include your child’s jersey number. Rosters need to be turned into Super Liga by January 22, 2010. Please contact Glenn if you would like to arrange a payment schedule. As of tonight, there are 21 children registered to play and 6 coaches.
3) Coaches Classes for Spring 2010 – Coaching classes are filling up now. If you need to enroll please do it now. If you have questions or concerns please contact Dan Robbins.
4) Santa at the Johnston Memorial Park – Special thanks Jordan Bruno for his help with this special event.
5) Beer & Wine Tasting Event – SAVE the date – Thursday, April 29th 2010. This event is organized by the Johnston Community Center. Funds raised at this event go back to our community, including our Soccer Field. Coaches and parents of Lightning Players should plan on attending to show thanks for all the support that JCC has provided to us. The tickets are $20 each and this will be held at the Rosario Club in Providence. Tickets are available from Glenn or the Recreation Department.
6) Fundraising and Special Events – A new year began and it is time to plan our Fundraising and Events for 2010. At the February meeting we will be looking for your ideas. If you can not attend the meeting please email Valerie Valentine with your thoughts. Events like Family Fun Day and Mayors Soccer Challenge will be on the list.
7) Concession Stand – A big THANKS to Frank & Marion Chellio who have been working hard donating their time and resources to make the concession stand what it is today. Also, Jeanette Scarcella coordinated Johnson & Wales students last fall to work the concession for many Saturday games and she will have more students there this spring as well. Even with all their hard work we will still be looking for more parents to get involved in the concession stand this spring. Please contact Marion or Jeanette if you can help. Thanks.
8) Challenging Up Players – Coach Bill Shakespeare asked if he could have a U10 age player, play up and join his U12 boy’s roster for session two of indoor. He discussed this issue further with the Advisory Board, which followed the Parent & Coaches meeting.
9) Windsor Hill Gym – Coaches please remind parents and players that food or drinks, including water are NOT allowed in the Windsor Hill School Gym. Also, sneakers only are allowed on the Gym floor, absolutely no street shoes.
10) Gym Time –The JYSA $115 player registration only covers the cost of entering a team in the leagues. It cost about $1,100 to register a team, which includes insurance. The cost of $115 per child figures that each team would have a ten player roster. Some teams have less and some have more, it averages out. The registration fee does not include gym rental fees. Additional gym time may be rented at World Wide sports for a cost of $175 per hour, which would be divided among your team’s players. In fact, some other RI leagues charge their players about $10 for each practice to rent facilities. Our league is fortunate enough to have gym time available in our Town. It does not always run as smooth as we would like, but we try and work out the bump the best we can.
Next JYSA Parents and Coaches meeting is tentatively set for Monday, February 1, 2010.
